Girls tennis: Minnewaska duo, Litchfield’s Dille move into semifinals

Oct. 24—MINNEAPOLIS — Minnewaska’s Megan Thorfinnson and Alia Randt are still alive in the state Class A doubles tournament after the first two rounds of play Thursday at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center.

Thorfinnson and Randt are the tournament’s third seed. The duo opened with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Cannon Falls’ Sophia Nerison and Livia Tennisen. Thorfinson and Randt then beat Blake’s Regan Blass and Louisa Cohen 7-5, 6-2 to move into the semifinals, where they’ll play Maple River’s Ally Mersman and Madison Ward.

Also playing in the semifinals is Litchfield’s Isla Dille.

Dille, who is seeded fourth, beat unseeded Vivian Mader of Waseca 6-2, 6-0 in the first round. She advanced to beat fifth-seeded Leah Maddock of Osakis 6-1, 7-6 (4) in the quarterfinals. Dille plays Minnehaha Academy’s Chloe Alley in the semifinals that begin at 8 a.m. Friday. Alley is the top seed. Play continues throughout the afternoon, with the championship scheduled for later in the day.

Montevideo’s Brooke Lindeman lost 6-4, 7-6 (4) to Braylee Wienan of Thief River Falls in the first round.

Also in doubles, Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd’s Hannah Oie and Kayla Jahn pulled off the upset of the day in the first round. The unseeded duo beat top-seeded Camila Pardo and Nora Ibrani of The Blake School 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. Oie and Jahn then lost to Lake City’s Therese Bauer and Rylee Thieren 6-4, 6-1.

Litchfield’s Molly Patten and Emma Knudsen also went 1-1 Thursday. The fifth-seeded Dragons opened with a 5-7, 6-0, 6-4 victory over Tali Bellefye and Meg Santini of Holy Family Catholic. Patten and Knudsen then lost to Maple River’s Macy Sohre and Kelsey Jaeger 6-1, 6-1.
