GIRLS TENNIS: West Scranton earns win over Valley View

Katie Fahey won a three-set battle with Sarah Sweeney, 0-6, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2 singles in a match on Tuesday that started Sept. 29 and was halted by rain to lift West Scranton to a 3-2 win over Valley View in Lackawanna League girls tennis.

Zarina Mustafina and Julia Farkaly won their singles matches for the Lady Invaders, who improved to 9-1 and climbed to fourth place in the District 2 Class 2A power ratings.

West Scranton plays at Mid Valley on Wednesday and has important matches against Delaware Valley (7-1) and Abington Heights (8-1) next week.

Valley View’s doubles teams of Emma Wood-Emily Moyles and Clare Lombardi-Riley Harrington won their matches on the first day the teams played.

The Cougars (6-2) are in sixth place in Class 2A and host Delaware Valley on Wednesday and then play at Abington Heights on Monday.
