Great Falls High’s Hanna Boyd runner-up at Class AA state golf tournament

KALISPELL – Great Falls High’s Hanna Boyd finished an illustrious career at the Class AA state golf tournament Friday, finishing runner-up in the girls’ individual race that came down to a two-hole playoff.

Billings Senior’s Becca Washington earned medalist honors as she rallied from three strokes down after the opening round on Thursday, taking the lead Friday before Boyd rallied back to tie in the final holes and force the playoff.

A Montana State-Billings women’s golf commit, Boyd has finished with All-State honors the last three seasons, taking sixth the previous two years. Boyd shot a two-day total of 155, improving by one stroke from Thursday for 77 over the final 18 holes to tie for first heading into the playoff with Washington.

Washington improved by seven strokes from Thursday to Friday to come back, shooting a 74 on the final round.

Boyd’s finish was the best by a Bison girls’ player in over 15 years, when Morgan Lee shot a 150 to take second in 2008.

She is also one of only a few Great Falls High girls to finish in the top two since 1999, with Tina Bickford winning it all in 2002 and taking second in 2003, while Kylie Anderson was state runner-up in 1999, 2000 and 2002. Catrina Babinecz was third in 2015 when the Bison captured a state championship.

C.M. Russell High’s Quincey Weymouth earned her first All-State designation as she finished sixth, firing a 167. The junior kicked off the tournament with an 82 on Thursday before an 85 over 18 holes on Friday.

CMR sophomore Jack Pinski earned an All-State finish as he shot a two-day total of 150 to tie for ninth on the boys’ side with Reid Wilkinson of Bozeman High. Pinski shot a 73 on day one of the tournament and 77 on Friday to finish six-over-par for the meet.

Kalispell Glacier won the boys’ team title while Missoula Sentinel’s Hudson Goroski was the individual medalist, shooting four-under-par on Friday to capture the title.

Bozeman Gallatin took the girls’ championship, edging Billings West by one stroke.

Ayden Platt finished tied for 27th with a two-day total of 159 for the CMR boys, while Danica Lewis was 24th for the Rustler girls, shooting a 189.
