Fulton boys basketball improve to 18-1, beating Alcoa
Fulton defeated Alcoa 78-67 at home. Taj Kimber led the Falcons in scoring with 18 points. Alcoa’s Jahvin Carter had 31 points.
Greeneville basketball junior Trey Thompson has received an offer from Tennessee ahead of the 2024-25 TSSAA basketball season, he announced on social media Thursday.
Thompson also has offers from Virginia Tech, Xavier, Butler, Purdue, Appalachian State, East Tennessee State and Ohio, among others.
The 6-foot-8 power forward was a Class 3A Mr. Basketball finalist after averaging 24 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. Thompson led the Greene Devils to a 20-10 record and region semifinals. He made the Knox News All-PrepXtra boys basketball first team for his sophomore season.
In his freshman season, Thompson averaged 16.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 0.9 blocks per game.
Greeneville last made the state tournament in 2022 and won the championship. It was led by now-Maryville junior Ja’Kobi Gillespie, who averaged 27.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and three steals that season.

Gillespie, who was Greeneville’s last high-major college player, transferred from Belmont last season. He averaged 17. 2 points, 4.2 assists, 3.8 rebounds and shot 56.1% from the field.
