Greg Chappell writes to Prithvi Shaw, urges him to leave past behind and focus on playing for India National Cricket Team

Date:

Legendary Australian batter and former India head coach Greg Chappell has written a letter to struggling Prithvi Shaw, urging him to leave behind his past and focus on playing for India National Cricket Team. Chappell is ready to help Shaw and told the 24-year-old Mumbai batter to speak to him if needs any help. Shaw was recently dropped from the Mumbai squad in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season.

Greg Chappell mentioned about the legendary Don Bradman and himself to highlight that the feeling of getting dropped can help in reviving careers.

Shaw has been inconsistent across formats. He has been out of Team India for a long time and was recently released by Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction. Mumbai also lost patience with him and the young batter is out of the side. He has been accused of taking things for granted and his fitness in not upto the mark.

“Past doesn’t define you and you should focus on future. You are still in your prime, with so many years ahead to leave your mark. Take this time to improve as a player and surround yourself with people who can inspire you,” Chappell wrote in a letter, as quoted by the Times of India.

The former India head coach was impressed with Shaw when he started playing for India. Shaw scored a hundred on his Test debut against the West Indies in 2018. His performances in domestic cricket were also impressive.

However, Shaw struggled to maintain performance level and last played for India in 2021.

“Setbacks are a part of every athlete’s life. Even great Don Bradman was dropped and had to fight his way back.

“You can’t blame anyone and your response to challenges will define your path. Discipline and sacrifice are important. Apart from the game, you will have focus on your dite and fitness to avoid regret I’m the future,” he added.

“Take care of your body. I believe in you and if you need any help do reach out to me. You can still to reach your full potential. Wishing you all the best on this journey. Regards, Greg.”
