Hagerstown’s Ashley Grier named Middle Atlantic PGA Women’s Player of the Year

Hagerstown’s Ashley Grier has been named the Middle Atlantic PGA Women’s Player of the Year, the MAPGA announced Friday.

Grier, the assistant PGA professional at Yingling’s Golf Center in Hagerstown, had a dominant season, finishing as the low female professional in five events — the MAPGA Section Professional Championship, the Rolex MAPGA Players Cup, the MAPGA Stroke Play Championship No. 2, the MAPGA Pro-Scratch and the Northern Chapter Championship.

Grier won the MPSSAA girls state title as a senior at Smithsburg in 2000. She is a graduate of the University of Central Florida, where she played on the women’s golf team. She began her professional career competing on the Future’s Tour (now the Symetra Tour) for more than five years.

In 2014, Grier earned her PGA membership and began her career on the teaching side of the business, while continuing to compete at a very high level. Sshe has competed in five major championships (four KPMG Women’s PGA Championships and a U.S. Women’s Open), while earning 2020 Rolex Women’s PGA Professional Player of the Year and 2021 Philadelphia PGA Assistant Player of the Year honors.

Grier also played for two victorious U.S. Women’s PGA Cup teams, earned a spot on the 2024 Corebridge Financial Team and competed in the Women’s PGA Championship at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash.

Grier was inducted into the Washington County Sports Hall of Fame in 2019 and the Washington County Golf Hall of Fame in 2021.
