Barcelona are currently navigating through their worst run in La Liga in 16 years, having secured just one victory in their last seven matches.
This dismal streak has led to them losing the lead at the top of the table to rivals Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
Flick not too worried about Atleti defeat
Barcelona’s most recent mishap came against Atletico Madrid, when the team lost 2-1 at the Montjuic.
As per SPORT, however, manager Hansi Flick isn’t overly concerned. In the post-match analysis, he expressed his pride in how his team played against one of Europe’s elite.
The performance against Simeone’s Atletico was one where Barcelona dominated possession and created numerous scoring opportunities, which left both the coach and the fans feeling optimistic despite the result.
This attitude has been echoed by Barcelona’s upper management as well, who feel the team can compete for the titles if they continue playing like this against top teams.
What Flick expects from Barcelona
However, Flick’s concerns lie elsewhere. The losses to teams like Las Palmas and Leganes have clearly troubled him, not because of the quality of opposition, but due to what it reveals about his team’s mentality.
According to Flick, these defeats highlight a critical issue – the lack of consistent motivation and intensity against less prestigious teams.
As such, he believes that while the squad has shown they can compete with the best, their approach needs recalibration to maintain that level of performance in every match, not just the high-profile ones.
Flick emphasized the need for his players to show the same hunger and determination in every game, regardless of the opponent.
