Hong Kong Cricket Sixes: India out in shock defeat, hosts set to face Australia

Date:

India have been knocked out of the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes following a breathtaking finish to their closing Pool C match against United Arab Emirates on Saturday morning.

Chasing 131 for victory, in what was essentially a quarter-final after both teams lost to Pakistan on Friday, India needed 32 runs off the final over to reach their target.

Stuart Binny hit Asif Khan’s first ball for four, before the bowler sent down a wide with his next delivery. Binny then lined up Khan’s off breaks to crash four straight sixes and reduced the equation to three runs required from the final ball. Khan limited Binny to a single, however, as India finished on 129 for three to suffer a one-run defeat.

Nepal finished top of Pool B after beating Australia by 11 runs in the opening match at Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground. The Aussies will play Hong Kong in the first quarter-final, at 12.10pm, while Nepal face Sri Lanka in their last-eight tie later in the day.

Pakistan meet South Africa in the second quarter-final, with India’s conquerors, UAE, battling Bangladesh for a semi-final spot in the day’s final match at 4:45pm.
