Hot Air Balloon Knocks Over Radio Tower in Albuquerque

Date:

A hot air balloon collided with a radio tower and caused it to collapse in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Friday morning, October 11, as dozens of balloonists took flight for the city’s annual Balloon Fiesta event.

Festival officials said the balloon snapped a guy wire on the KKOB tower but was able to keep flying, according to KOB 4.

This security footage from a nearby business, Sit Means Sit Dog Training, shows the balloon traveling toward the tower and then the collapse of the tower a few moments later. Staff said they “heard a loud crash” which is also audible in the video.

The three occupants of the balloon were uninjured, local media reported. Credit: Sit Means Sit Dog Training via Storyful
