While uncertainty continues to brew over the fitness of Frenkie de Jong, Barcelona’s other top midfielder, Gavi, has witnessed a rather quick recovery process after picking up a serious injury last year.
Over the course of the last few months, Gavi has worked hard on his fitness, desperately looking to get back to full team training.
Gavi to return to group training
A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has offered an important update on Gavi’s fitness, suggesting he could be back in group training as soon as this week.
As per the report, Barcelona’s coaching staff, in collaboration with the medical team, are looking to have Gavi participate in some training sessions with the team.
Gavi could return to training as early as Thursday, which could serve as a major boost for Barcelona – a team running short of midfield options due to the absences of de Jong and Marc Bernal.
What does it mean for Gavi?
Gavi returning to some parts of team training this week does not guarantee he will be back in action right away.
In fact, the midfielder could take some time to restore his full fitness, as he must work on different aspects of his health and physique.
The report adds that Gavi’s final medical discharge could come in October but it can perhaps even drag until November.
A lot will depend on how Barcelona approach this matter. The club haven’t had a good experience in dealing with Pedri’s injuries in the last few years.
Hence, it won’t be surprising to see the club taking a more cautious approach with Gavi.
