Hurricanes Sign Skyler Brind’Amour to One-Year, Two-Way Deal

Date:

The Carolina Hurricanes have announced that they have signed forward Skyler Brind’Amour, son of coach Rod Brind’Amour to a one-year, two-way deal.

The contract will pay Brind’Amour $775,000 at the NHL level and $75,000 at the AHL level.

“We were impressed with Skyler’s defensive awareness last season in the AHL, and he followed that up with a strong preseason showing,” said Carolina GM Eric Tulsky. “We’re excited to have him join our organization.”

The 25-year-old center was originally a 2017 sixth-round pick by the Edmonton Oilers, but decided to play out his collegiate career with the Quinnipiac Bobcats who he won the NCAA Championship with in 2023.

Following college, Brind’Amour signed a two-year AHL deal with the Charlotte Checkers, but had his contract mutually terminated this offseason before joining Carolina on a PTO.

Brind’Amour had a good camp and showed a strong ability on the PK and in the faceoff dot.

I’m his harshest critic,” Rod Brind’Amour had said on being objective in evaluating his son. “So if I see good things then he’s doing really good things and I certainly pick out the things he needs to do better but that’s kind of the way dads are. But I put the coach hat on too and I know where he fits and what he needs to do better so we’ll see where it goes.”
