India U19 defeated Sri Lanka U19 in the semi-final of the Asia Cup to punch their ticket to the final. Vaibhav Suryavanshi played a key role in the win and played a match-winning knock of 67 off just 36 balls. Courtesy of his knock, India chased down the target of 174 in just 21.4 overs.
Suryavanshi, who had scored a half-century against UAE too, created history during the Asia Cup by becoming the youngest player to score a half-century in Youth ODIs aged 13 years and 252 days. He remained unbeaten on 76 against UAE.
Suryavanshi continued his form and scored another half-century in the semi-final. He achieved a huge record after his half-century against Sri Lanka and became the youngest Indian to be bestowed with the Player of the Match award.
India U19 will face Bangladesh U19 in the final on Sunday (December 8). Bangladesh U19 punched their ticket to the final with a win over Pakistan.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history at IPL auction
Suryavanshi has been breaking records since making his debut in domestic cricket. He etched his name in record books when he joined Rajasthan Royals (RR) for Rs 1.10 crore in the IPL 2025 mega-auction. The 13-year-old is the youngest player to get a bid in the history of IPL auctions. At RR, Suryavanshi will play under Rahul Dravid’s guidance. Kumar Sangakkara is also part of RR’s coaching staff.
What’s next for Vaibhav Suryavanshi?
Suryavanshi will return to play domestic cricket for Bihar. They haven’t reached the second round of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Suryavanshi looks all but set to make his List A debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024, starting on December 21.
Bihar are scheduled to kick off their campaign against Madhya Pradesh on the first day of the tournament. They will face Tripura on December 23. The final of the List A tournament will be played on January 18.
