NEW DELHI: India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah added another feather to his glittering cap when he became the sixth Indian fast bowler to take 400 international wickets.
Bumrah dismissed Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud at the stroke of Tea on Day 2 of the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday to get to the mark.
Bumrah had Mahmud caught by Virat Kohli at second slip as India took charge of the first Test of the series.
Bumrah is one of India’s most successful and unique fast bowlers, known for his unorthodox action, exceptional pace, and remarkable ability to deliver under pressure in all formats of the game. Since his debut, Bumrah has been a crucial part of India’s bowling attack.
Bumrah made an immediate impact in limited-overs cricket with his ability to bowl pinpoint yorkers at the death, something India had long sought. His consistency and control with the new ball and at the death helped India in both ODIs and T20Is.
Bumrah is also the fastest Indian bowler to reach 100 wickets in ODIs and also the fastest Indian to 50 wickets in T20Is.
Bumrah has consistently taken wickets with the new ball and reverse-swinging old ball. His Test bowling average is among the best for Indian pacers.
Bumrah’s pace, combined with his ability to extract bounce, makes him a threat on all types of surfaces.
Bumrah is expected to lead India’s bowling attack across formats in the years to come, with his skill set making him indispensable, particularly in challenging overseas conditions.
