Indiana women’s basketball had three players sit out the exhibition. Are they out long?

Date:

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana women’s basketball players Lexus Bargesser (foot), Lenée Beaumont (knee) and Sydney Fenn (knee) sat out the team’s 95-27 exhibition win over Maryville on Wednesday night. Starting guard Sydney Parrish left the game in the third quarter with an ankle injury.

According to IU coach Teri Moren, Parrish could’ve gone back in the game and was held out for precautionary reasons. Beaumont is dealing with a slight knee injury and was held out for precautionary reasons as well.

“Load management,” Moren said with a smile.

Moren doesn’t know an exact timeline for Bargesser’s return — she was wearing a boot on her right foot — and ruled Fenn out for the rest of the season.

Bargesser was one of the first players off the bench for Indiana last season and was often asked to cover the opposing team’s top scorer in the backcourt. She averaged 4.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.

While she was reluctant to shoot the ball at times from the outside — she shot just 30% from 3-point range — she spent the offseason working on her jump shot to make sure opposing teams had to respect her range.

Bargesser dealt with a lingering left foot injury last year, but the latest injury is to her right foot.

Beaumont played in 30 games coming off the bench as a true freshman for IU last season. Her most productive game was a 100-59 win over Northwestern when she played 31 minutes and was one of six players to score double-digits with a season-high 11 points.

She was a dominant preps player at Benet Academy in Illinois. She was the state’s Ms. Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior in 2023 and led her team to the state title game while averaging 18.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game.

Fenn was one of two high school seniors to sign with the Hoosiers in the 2024 signing class.

While she’s from Buffalo, New York, she played at AZ Compass Prep, a program that plays a national schedule. She averaged 12.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 blocks per game as a junior.

The 6-foot-3 forward was on crutches on Wednesday night.
