Inter boss Simone Inzaghi on Lautaro Martinez after win over Roma: “In the top five in the world”

Reigning Serie A champions Inter picked up a close 1-0 win over Roma and after that, manager Simone Inzaghi had some words of praise for striker Lautaro Martinez.

The Argentine had scored for the Nerazzurri and it was his goal that turned out to be the winner. He is a Ballon D’or nominee and Lionel Messi himself has tipped the striker to win the prize.

Now that Martinez is back in form in the Serie A, Inzaghi was asked about his striker in a chat with DAZN. He said, as relayed by TMW:

“He has to continue like this, with Inter and with the national team. I think he is in the top 5 in the world, I’m happy for him. Tonight I would give it to all the lads, we faced a long and quality team. Winning in Rome is a very important thing”.

Inzaghi also spoke about problems in midfield and the injury picked up by Hakan Calhanoglu and he said: “Tonight we had some problems in the middle, Asllani and Zielinski weren’t well and Calha wasn’t at his best either. I think he stopped in time. We talked about it with the team: away from home we were missing points. Tonight it was difficult and we were a team.”

Inter are now back to second in the Serie A table and closely behind Napoli, who also won this gameweek. It is shaping upto to be an interesting title race and the contenders are becoming clear.
