Inter Milan could make a low-cost defensive signing during the January transfer window as Tomas Palacios continues to bed in.
This according to the Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Nerazzurri are considering turning to the market in response to their injury crisis at the back.
In recent weeks, Inter’s defensive depth has been stretched very thin.
This is the result of injuries that have kept Benjamin Pavard and Francesco Acerbi on the sidelines.
Both Pavard and Acerbi should be back in the new year.
However, the pair’s absence has underlined the risks that injuries can pose to Inter’s backline.
Against Como on Monday, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi went with a back three of Carlos Augusto, Alessandro Bastoni, and Yann Bisseck.
That was just about the only option the coach had. Stefan de Vrij was only fit to come on as a substitute, while Matteo Darmian also had an injury.
Inter Could Make Low-Cost January Signing As Tomas Palacios Still Bedding In
Inter do have Tomas Palacios who could give additional defensive depth.
However, the Argentine is still young and has only been at the Nerazzurri for a few months.
Therefore, it appears clear that Inzaghi doesn’t yet trust Palacios to be a starter.
This could be a problem for Inter.
Therefore, the Gazzetta reports, the Nerazzurri could sign a defender next month in order to bolster the defensive depth with a player who has more experience.
