Hakan Calhanoglu had to come off early in Inter Milan’s Serie A clash with Roma due to a potential thigh problem.
Italian outlet FCInterNerws report that the initial signs from the Nerazzurri medical staff point to the Turk having suffered a contracture in the adductor muscle of his left thigh.
Calhanoglu was in the Inter starting eleven for this evening’s Serie A match away to Roma.
It was hardly a surprise to see the 30-year-old in the lineup.
Calhanoglu is a key player for Inter. He is the first-choice option in holding midfield for the Nerazzurri.
Calhanoglu has been outstanding in the deep-lying role for a couple of seasons.
This saw the Turkish international make the thirty-player shortlist for this season’s Ballon D’Or.
Naturally, this makes Calhanoglu a hard player for Inter to do without.
However, the Nerazzurri will have to do so for the majority of this evening’s match against the Giallorossi.
Hakan Calhanoglu Suffers Adductor Contracture In Inter Clash With Roma
It was a surprise to see Calhanoglu have to come off so early in this evening’s match against Roma.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi took the Turkish international off right around the ten-minute mark.
It was Davide Frattesi who took the place of Calhanoglu in the lineup.
Therefore, Nicolo Barella moved into the holding midfield role. Davide Frattesi took Barella’s place on the right side of the midfield trio.
Calhanoglu’s main backup in the Inter squad is currently absent with injury. Kristjan Asllani picked up a knock in training which saw him miss this evening’s match.
Meanwhile, Piotr Zielinski is also on the sidelines with a thigh problem.
This certainly highlights the risk of injury amid a packed fixture list.
According to FCIN, Inter’s medical staff have already assessed Calhanoglu. Their initial assessment suggests that the former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen man has suffered a contracture to the adductor muscle in his left thigh.
