Iowans Gene Elliott and Mike McCoy help U.S. beat Europe at the Concession Cup

Iowans Gene Elliott and Mike McCoy helped the United States beat Europe 15-9 at the Concession Cup golf tournament in Savannah, Ga.

The Concession Cup is a Ryder Cup-style event between the top Mid-Am and Senior amateur golf players in the U.S. and Europe. Elliott and McCoy, both residents of the Des Moines area, were two of six Team USA senior players on the men’s side.

The Americans trailed 7-5 entering Friday’s singles matches, then went 10-2 in those matches to secure the victory. McCoy won his match, 2 up, and Elliott won his match, 3 and 1.

McCoy and Elliott lost their Wednesday fourball match, then won their Thursday foursomes match.
