Gustav Isaksen reveals how Marco Baroni is unleashing his talent at Lazio, while Mattia Zaccagni has a very special dedication after beating Napoli 1-0.
It was a hard-fought match in the cold and rain at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, as both sides rattled the frame of the goal with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa.
The decider came in the final minutes, when Isaksen ran onto a Tijjani Noslin pass from midfield, cut inside Mathias Olivera and bent a ferocious left-foot finish into the far top corner.
This result came after Lazio also beat Napoli 3-1 in the Coppa Italia on Thursday, a game played at the Stadio Olimpico and sealed by Noslin’s hat-trick.
Lazio dedicate victory to twin fans
The two players had a banner, reading Flavio and Francesco, referring to the pair of twin Lazio supporters who died within 36 days of each other from a rare illness.
The banner was given to the players by the Lazio ultras, who were banned from attending at the Stadio Maradona due to security concerns.
“They gave us so much passion, the fans were unable to come with us, but they showed us their support and gave us this banner. These two guys will stay with us forever,” Zaccagni told DAZN.
“Sacrifice, humility, union, these are all important. Those who played in the Coppa Italia showed the unity in this squad, we are very happy with what we are doing, we won’t settle for anything and will keep taking it one game at a time.
“We want to stay close to the top and achieve something this season.”
Isaksen got the winning goal and was asked if this was his best match since joining Lazio from FC Midtjylland in the summer of 2023.
“Perhaps it is my best performance at Lazio. Scoring a goal is important, but the three points were what really mattered, especially after we lost to Parma,” Isaksen said on DAZN.
He had struggled under Maurizio Sarri and Igor Tudor, but seems to have flourished since Baroni took over.
“The coach tells me every day that I have to take opponents on, one-on-one, that we strikers should have courage and go for goal. It went well, we are very happy.”
