Italy boss speaks on Federico Chiesa after win over Israel

Date:

Italy boss Luciano Spalletti has spoken about Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa after the Azzurri’s Nations League win against Israel.

Goals from Davide Frattesi and Moise Kean made sure that Italy picked up a 2-1 win over Israel and won their second game of the Nations League group stages, after having previously beaten France in the opening game of the campaign last week.

Spalletti spoke about the game after the win and he was asked about how Chiesa can fit into the side when he gets called up during the upcoming international breaks.

The Azzurri boss said: “I imagine he can play as a second striker, but more free to go out on the wings. This 3-5-2 can sometimes also be with a central striker and a free striker, it doesn’t necessarily have to be with two central strikers.”

He was also asked about how the Azzurri can improve in the upcoming games and he stated that they need to be better in tighter spaces.

“Tonight it became clear that we need to be better in tight spaces. We need a little more quality, but without losing balance in the defensive phase as has happened in these two games. This system with three central defenders works like this, then it is clear that a lot also depends on the players who take to the field.”

Frattesi has now impressed a lot under Spalletti and he spoke about the Inter aman about the performances of the midfielder.

“Even when Frattesi is not seen in the play, he does a significant amount of work, he always helps the team by allowing them to be in superiority. He has the ability to insert himself and is always in the right place, he is a very important player for us.”
