Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
The Spurs last saw the Rockets a little over a week ago in a preseason contest where Pop rested almost everyone and Ime Udoka played his regular season lineup. The result of that game was a predictable 22 point blowout win for the Space City maurauders.
Tonight, since this is a game that counts, Pop will play a regular lineup, although both Devin Vassell and Tre Jones will be out tonight due to injury, which will keep Pop from playing a five guard lineup (OK, three) for most of the game. Victor Wembanyama is hoping to have a more productive game than the opener, where he seemed to be content chucking three point shots from the perimeter instead of running offense. Alperen Sengun is one of the more difficult defensive matchups for Wemby, so it will be interesting to see how he responds tonight. Whatever happens tonight, we’ll be seeing this matchup two more times in the next couple of weeks, so it’s something to watch.
Jeremy Sochan and Harrison Barnes were the two Spurs who had solid games against the Mavs, and they’ll have to step up again tonight for the Spurs to get their first win of the season. The Rockets are on the second night of a back-to-back, blowing out the Grizzlies last night 128-108, so hopefully they’ll be a little winded tonight from scoring all those baskets. Let’s go Spurs!
Game Prediction:
Fred Van Vleet will shave his beard before the game and will miss the game because the security guards couldn’t recognize and wouldn’t let him into the locker room.
