THREE QUICK TAKEAWAYS

1. Myles Rice is a gamechanger.  There has been plenty of offseason talk about improved guard play for IU, and Washington State transfer guard Myles Rice looks like he will bring considerably more playmaking from the backcourt for the Hoosiers.  Against a good defense, the redshirt sophomore had 20 points and added four assists with no turnovers.  Rice hit a key pull-up jumper in the final two minutes, and then got into the paint and found Malik Reneau for a dunk to put the game away.

2. The offense isn’t there yet, but it shows potential.  Indiana had a miserable first half on the offensive end, shooting 33.3% overall and 0-11 from three.  They added 10 turnovers against just four assists against an aggressive Volunteer defense.  But things went much better after the break.  The Hoosiers scored 41 second half points on 51.9% shooting including 4-8 from three.  They had seven assists and just three turnovers after halftime.

3. Reneau goes on 10-0 run.  Malik Reneau took the game over in the second half.  With IU trailing 54-50 with under seven minutes left, he scored 10 unanswered points including a 3-pointer that gave Indiana a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.  The junior forward had a team-high 21 points on 8-12 shooting and added 8 rebounds.
