Jets HC Robert Saleh: It’s ‘fair to say’ Haason Reddick won’t play in Week 1 as holdout continues

Date:

Jets head coach Robert Saleh had no new update on the Haason Reddick situation ahead of Saturday morning’s final practice prior to the season opening matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

With Reddick continuing onto day 47 of his holdout from the organization in hopes of a long-term deal, Saleh indicated that it’s “fair to say” that the team will be without the talented pass rusher for Monday night’s contest.

“When he gets here we’re going to do everything we can do to help him make everything he wants,” he said. “We’re going to welcome him with open arms, we’re going to love him up and he’s going to be a big part of this football team. He’s going to help us win a lot of games.

“But for now, he’s got to sort through all of the financial stuff which is none of my business. I said it when I first got hired here, our job is to help these guys make money so I always stay clear of it. Our job is to coach him up when he gets here.”

Gang Green acquired the two-time Pro Bowler in an offseason deal with the Philadelphia Eagles in hopes of him helping take their already top-tier defense to an even higher level.

But it looks like they’ll have to wait a little longer to see that group come together, as Reddick continues to stay away from the team with the highly-anticipated season opener now just two days away.

While having him sidelined is certainly a big blow against the high-powered San Fran offense, the rest of the Jets’ defensive is confident in each others ability to step up to fill that void.

“As far as people not being here and people being gone, it doesn’t really make a difference,” captain and linebacker C.J. Mosley said. “It’s a defensive line that adjusts and rotates on every single play.”

“You could ask the teams we joint-practiced against and then you will see on Monday,” pass-rusher Jermaine Johnson added. “We all feel pretty good, we’re fully confident we’re going to go do some damage, for sure.”
