Jimmy Fallon Uses ‘Empty Room’ At Debate To Fire A Withering Zinger At JD Vance

Date:

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump debated on Tuesday with no crowd to watch on ― an occurrence that Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) is very familiar with, Jimmy Fallon joked.

“Just like the previous debate, there was no audience. Yep, they were speaking to a totally silent, empty room, or, as JD Vance calls that, a rally,” the “Tonight Show” host quipped in his monologue Tuesday.

The comedian also threw in a swipe at President Joe Biden, whose terrible performance at the June presidential debate ultimately led to his departure from the race and endorsement of the vice president as his successor.

“Harris was on the right, Trump was on the left, and Biden was at home, wondering, ‘Where do I know these guys from?’” Fallon said.

Vance, the running mate of crowd size-obsessed Republican nominee Trump, has drawn sparse crowds on the campaign trail, a contrast to the packed rallies held by Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D).

As part of the rules for Tuesday’s debate, moderated by ABC News, Trump and Harris’ microphones were muted when it was not their turn to speak, and there was no studio audience present.
