Bayern Munich suffered their first defeat of the season under Vincent Kompany. Losing 1-0 to Aston Villa in the Champions League, Manuel Neuer was caught out of position which allowed Jhon Durán to lob the German from 30 yards. But despite the error, Joshua Kimmich has defended his teammate.
“It was our own standard, we were perhaps a little too far away,” Kimmich told DAZN. “Manu generally stands a little. We often benefit from Manu standing high, so we don’t blame him for the goal.”
The Rekordmeister dominated Villa in every metric. With 70 percent possession, 17 shots and 656 passes in comparison to Aston Villa’s five shots and 290 passes, Bayern Munich were unable to break through the Premier League’s side low-block as they continue to struggle to break down the top teams.
“Going forward, even if not everything was perfect, we had some very good chances,” added Kimmich. “There weren’t that many but the ones we had were 100 percent.”
After dropping points against Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend and now losing their first game of the season, Kompany’s Bayern face an equally tough game when they travel to Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.
