Juan Soto offers expected to go through multiple rounds, with decision possible around MLB Winter Meetings: report

Date:

Juan Soto reportedly has offers from five teams, including the Mets and Yankees, but that doesn’t mean the superstar sweepstakes is coming to a conclusion just yet.

According to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic, offers for Soto are expected to go through multiple rounds, with the first round considered “preliminary” and used mainly to gauge interest.

Per Kuty, offers will begin to become “increasingly more serious” next week or so, which could point to a decision around the Winter Meetings, which will take place in Dallas from Dec. 9-12.

As of now, the five known teams with offers on the table for Soto are the Mets, Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, and Los Angeles Dodgers. There had previously been reports of the Philadelphia Phillies planning to meet with Soto, but no meeting or offer has been reported.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported on Monday that the Mets are the “clear-cut favorite” to land Soto, with league execs believing that Steve Cohen will not be outbid for the 26-year-old star’s services.

“We’re going to find out,” Cohen said of the Mets’ pursuit on Monday. “It’s either going to be yes or no, there’s no in-between, time will tell.”
