Angry fans refusing to come into the stadium, and celebrating a 5-0 thrashing at Oktoberfest – just another normal weekend across Europe’s leagues.
In Italy, AC Milan ended a run of six defeats in the Derby della Madonnina with victory over their Serie A city rivals Inter.
There were also wins for Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris St-Germain and Marseille.
Here’s what you may have missed across the continent over the past few days.
Bayern’s ‘special talent’ thriving
Bayern Munich maintained their flawless start in the Bundesliga with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen.
Harry Kane scored just the one goal, but it was a significant one. Kane’s strike made him the top scoring English player in the history of the Bundesliga.
The England captain’s goal moved him above Jadon Sancho, who scored 40 Bundesliga goals for Borussia Dortmund.
However, it was the performance of Michael Olise – who scored twice against Bremen – which got the juices flowing for Bayern boss Vincent Kompany.
Olise, who joined Bayern in a £50m deal from Crystal Palace, has been in scintillating form with five goals in his past three games in all competitions.
“Michael did very well. He’s a special talent. It’s a luxury at Bayern to have so many good players,” Kompany said after the game.
“His start at Bayern couldn’t be much better. He has to keep going this way. I haven’t got the feeling that he’s a player who feels much pressure. He just enjoys football.”
Bayern have scored 29 goals under Kompany – a new club record for the first six competitive matches of a coach since the Bundesliga was founded.
No wonder Kompany allowed Bayern’s players – including Kane, Olise and Jamal Musiala – to don their lederhosen and enjoy the first Sunday of the Oktoberfest festival.
Champions Bayer Leverkusen remain a point behind Bayern after a dramatic 4-3 victory over Wolfsburg.
Victor Boniface scored in the third minute of injury time for Leverkusen, with midfielder Granit Xhaka calling the match a “a giant wake-up call” before next Saturday’s showdown with Bayern.
“We can’t keep going with performances like that. We can’t defend so naively. Sure, we scored four but we can’t do that every weekend,” Xhaka said.
Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund were thrashed 5-1 by Stuttgart, while newly promoted Holstein Kiel got their first-ever Bundesliga point after a 2-2 draw at Bochum.
No signs of Lewandowski slowing up
Age does not seem to wither Robert Lewandowski as he continues to find the net in La Liga, despite turning 36 last month.
Lewandowski scored twice in Barcelona’s 5-1 victory over Villarreal to continue the Catalan club’s 100% start under new boss Hansi Flick.
The Poland striker turned 36 last month but has already bagged five goals this season.
Barcelona remain top of the standings on 18 points after six wins from six matches.
The only sour note for Barcelona was a serious knee injury suffered by goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who left the field on a stretcher and looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
“It doesn’t look good for Marc. This injury makes us sad,” Flick said.
“We have to wait to know the full diagnosis of the injury, but it’s true it does appear to be really serious.”
Barcelona have a four-point lead over defending champions Real Madrid, who ran out 4-1 winners over Espanyol thanks to Kylian Mbappe’s fourth goal in three La Liga games.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side have also equalled the second-longest unbeaten run in La Liga, behind only Barcelona, who went 43 league games unbeaten between 2017 and 2018.
Conor Gallagher scored for the second La Liga game in succession but his Atletico Madrid side were held to a 1-1 draw at Rayo Vallecano.
Joy for Gabbia, fury in Rome
It was the stuff of dreams for boyhood AC Milan fan Matteo Gabbia as he scored an 89th-minute winner in their 2-1 victory over city rivals Inter.
Christian Pulisic had given AC Milan the lead early on at San Siro but Inter levelled through Federico Dimarco.
The Inter wing-back became the first Milan-born player to score a Serie A goal in the Derby della Madonnina since Paolo Maldini netted for Milan in November 1994.
But Gabbia, whose grandfather has been a Milan season-ticket holder for more than 50 years, headed in late on to secure the bragging rights.
Torino, who have not won the Scudetto since 1975-76, are top of Serie A after Che Adams came off the bench to score the winner in a 3-2 win over Hellas Verona.
Napoli and Juventus missed the chance to end the weekend top as they played out a largely underwhelming 0-0 draw.
Roma fans used their game against Udinese as an opportunity to vent their anger at the decision to sack club legend Daniele de Rossi last week.
The entire Curva Sud section of the Stadio Olimpico, where the hardcore supporters stand, was empty for the first half an hour of the match in protest at De Rossi’s departure.
As a player De Rossi spent 22 years with Roma, between 1997 and 2019, making 616 appearances for them.
Roma, who are now under the management of Croatian Ivan Juric, won the match 3-0 thanks to goals from Artem Dovbyk, Paulo Dybala and Tommaso Baldanzi.
Rowe nets first Marseille goal
Jonathan Rowe bagged a 90th-minute winner for Marseille as they came from behind to clinch a 3-2 victory over Lyon in Ligue 1.
The England Under-21 international netted his first goal for the club having joined from Norwich City on a season-long loan, with an obligation to buy, in August.
Marseille are level on points with Paris St-Germain, who drew 1-1 with Reims, on 13 points after five matches.
Monaco are on the same number of points after a battling 3-1 win over Le Havre.
Marseille, PSG and Monaco are all unbeaten in the league this season, along with fourth-placed Lens.
Elsewhere, Former England and Liverpool striker Andy Carroll scored twice on his debut for French fourth-tier club Bordeaux in a 2-2 home draw with Voltigeurs de Chateaubriant.
Carroll, 35, dropped two divisions in France’s football pyramid when he moved from Ligue 2 team Amiens to join Bordeaux earlier this month.
