Kansas basketball vs Washburn live score updates: Jayhawks ready for final exhibition game

Date:

LAWRENCE — Kansas basketball will have another opportunity to play a preseason exhibition game Tuesday, at home against Washburn.

The Jayhawks are coming off of a recent exhibition defeat at Arkansas. Following Late Night in the Phog earlier this month, this Washburn matchup will be the first opportunity for KU fans to see their team go up against another inside a newly renovated Allen Fieldhouse. And while head coach Bill Self outlined Monday that that he didn’t expect graduate center Hunter Dickinson to play against Washburn, after missing the Arkansas game, Self noted that he expects junior guard Rylan Griffen and graduate guard Shakeel Moore to be available in some capacity.

Kansas is a Division I program. Washburn is a Division II program. And the Ichabods are coached by a former Jayhawks player, Brett Ballard, who’s also spent time in the past on Self’s coaching staff at KU.

The Jayhawks, especially late in the campaign, had to navigate injury issues that further brought attention to the reality that they just didn’t have enough depth. The coaching staff hit the transfer portal hard to address those concerns, and expectations are high again this season.

How did Washburn basketball perform last season?

Washburn is coming off of a 19-11 season. The season ended with a loss in the semifinals of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association tournament. That was Ballard’s seventh season at the helm, and he is now entering his eighth.
