Kentucky HS basketball coach resigns after controversial locker room video surfaces

Date:

Tyler Wagner, head coach of the Lynn Camp boys basketball team in Knox County, has submitted his resignation after locker room videos surfaced late last week showed him using explicit language while talking to players.

Wagner, who coached just one season at Lynn Camp, voluntarily announced his intent to resign on Wednesday, apologizing through a statement. The videos were recorded in Fall 2023 but were not posted to Facebook until last Friday. The post has received over 2,500 comments, has been shared over 3,500 times, and has racked up over a million views.

“The language that I used in this video is not acceptable in any manner. I allowed the competitive environment to get the best of me and for that I am truly sorry,” Wagner said in his statement, which you can read in full below. “I have fully accepted that what I did was not right, and I pledge to be better.”

In the two clips totaling nearly 90 seconds, Wagner uses constant expletives to berate his players for their lack of effort. You can find the NSFW video by clicking the link here. One of Wagner’s former players at Lynn Camp, Zach Thorpe, defended his coach, telling WYMT that Wagner is a “great coach” and that he’s “thankful for him”.

Wagner, who attended Lynn Camp in high school before playing college basketball at Union College, was hired as the school’s new head coach in May 2023. He went on to post an overall record of 8-20 during his first and only season in charge. Lynn Camp is scheduled to begin the 2024-25 season On Dec. 2 against Owsley County.
