Kentucky vs Colgate score today: UK basketball game highlights from Rupp Arena

Date:

LEXINGTON — Kentucky basketball‘s Ansley Almonor said he and his teammates learned something about themselves in last week’s overtime win against Gonzaga, which saw UK overcome a 16-point halftime deficit.

“We’re tough,” said Almonor, a senior who transferred to Kentucky after spending three seasons at Fairleigh Dickinson. “We’re a really resilient group. Being down 16 (points at halftime), 18 in the second half, most teams would just crumble and give up at that point. But we’re a veteran team and we knew we were better and we just had to go out there and execute the game plan.

“And that’s what we did.”

That’s not all the Wildcats proved in Brandon Garrison‘s mind.

“(We) just keep showing that Kentucky basketball is back,” said Garrison, a sophomore forward, “and just keep shocking everybody in the world who doubted us from the jump.”

Kentucky, which now is ranked No. 5 in both major polls in Mark Pope‘s first season, likely won’t be able silence any remaining doubters tonight, as they host a Colgate club that is just 2-8.

But that’s not the point, Almonor said.

“Coach tries to preach us every day, ‘We’re not about wins or losses. We’re about getting better every day, so as long as we get better every day, we’ll end up where we want to end up,'” Almonor said. “Obviously (last) week was a big week for us. (We got a) big win.

“But each day we’re just trying to get better and today is another part of it.”
