Kerby Joseph: I envisioned leading league in interceptions this year

Date:

Lions safety Kerby Joseph had eight interceptions over his first two seasons with the team, but he’s been an even bigger ballhawk in his third year as a pro.

Joseph’s two interceptions against the 49ers on Monday night helped the team to a 40-34 win and it moved him to nine on the season. That leads the league and that spot is one that Joseph picked out for himself before the Lions began playing this year.

“I envisioned it,” Joseph said, via the team’s website. “I knew this was going to happen. I didn’t put a number on it, I just wanted to lead the pack. I wanted to separate myself and be different. I want to be great in this league. I don’t want to be no average Joe. I want to be great.”

Joseph is the first Lion with nine interceptions in a season since 1981 and one more would make him the first to double digits since Lem Barney did it in 1967. It would also help the Lions’ chances of prevailing against the Vikings and nailing down the top seed in the NFC in Week 18.
