Kevin De Bruyne hands Manchester City further fitness update on groin injury

Manchester City have been handed a further development on Kevin De Bruyne’s recovery from a groin injury sustained last month.

The 33-year-old returned to Manchester City training towards the end of last week, having taken on a complete October international break without commitments to the Belgium national team.

Belgium head coach Domenico Tedesco confirmed earlier this month that De Bruyne had withdrawn from both the October and November international breaks with a view towards recovering completely from his latest injury setback and taking care of his body more.

With that being said, there is no indication that De Bruyne intends to retire from international football, and there remains a belief that he will represent Belgium at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

And as Manchester City put together their first preparations for this week’s UEFA Champions League tie against Sparta Prague at the Etihad Stadium, Kevin De Bruyne has issued a further update on his own comeback to full fitness.

Having once again missed out on matchday duties during the weekend’s 1-2 away victory over Wolves, there were some concerns over whether there may have been a further setback to the Belgian’s recovery process.

However, the 33-year-old once again took part in full first-team training on Monday as the rest of the squad that were named in the starting line-up at Molineux took on recovery work at the City Football Academy.

It remains to be seen whether De Bruyne could make a late charge for matchday involvement against Sparta Prague on Wednesday night, however the current indication is that he will likely remain away from the contest to continue recovery.

Aside from the creative midfielder, club captain Kyle Walker is also likely to be absent after he missed the weekend’s meeting with Wolves due to a lack of match fitness. Pep Guardiola will issue a full update on Tuesday afternoon during his pre-match press conference.
