Kevin Garnett On Cooper Flagg

Date:

Quite honestly, most of us aren’t really qualified to judge high school prospects. Anyone can see someone can run and jump or has various useful skills, but few of us know enough about the finer points of the game to look at a 17-year-old and say, yeah…that kid is going places. Anybody could do it with, say, Shaquille O’ Neal, but more normal sized players?

You need more of a sense of the game, of craft, of seeing the finer points. Most of us simply can’t do that, but the comments we’ve seen from people who can, when they are talking about Duke freshman Cooper Flagg, are really striking.

Latest case in point: Kevin Garnett.

KG is clearly impressed. Here’s his take on young Flagg: “When I see him play, he’s got superstar around him. I could see kids wanting to be like that and play like that. Real talk, when I see him move, I’m like, okay,” Garnett told Clutchpoints.com. “Like you see the bones. Remember when Paolo [Banchero] was at Duke, and he was playing the collegiate game, and we kept saying his game is going to look better when he gets to the league?

“That’s kind of how I’m looking at Cooper Flagg…We haven’t had no bad ass, cold ass white boy like this in a long time.”

All aboard!
