If you haven’t already heard the news out of Boston, the Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman’s contract situation has turned ugly.
On Sept. 30th, Bruins President Cam Neely said, “I have 64 million why I’d be playing right now.” Of course, implying that the organization has offered their young star goalie $8 million per over eight seasons.
However, in the evening of the 30th, Swayman’s agent, Louis Gross, released a statement.
“At today’s press conference, $64 million was referenced. This was the first time that number was discussed in our negotiations. Prior to the press conference, no offer was made reaching that level. We are extremely disappointed. This was not fair to Jeremy. We will take a few days to discuss where we go from here.”
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has talked on the very ugly situation in Boston.
“The moment Neely said, “I have 64 million reasons why I’d be playing right now,” speculation ran rampant that Swayman would formally ask for a trade. The statement reveals one obvious truth—he is considering it.”
If this is in fact true, Los Angeles Kings GM Rob Blake needs to work the phones and see what the asking price for Swayman is.
Yes, they did just trade Pierre-Luc Dubois for Darcy Kuemper in the off-season. However, that shouldn’t be the reason why Blake doesn’t at least try to acquire one of the best young goalies in the NHL.
Ultimately, it’ll all come down to the asking price and if the Kings can afford it. Regardless, Blake will likely be one of many GMs to call Boston if the trade rumors are true.
