Knicks’ Landry Shamet ‘taking contact’ in G League as rehab continues

Date:

Landry Shamet is getting closer to a return to the court.

Tom Thibodeau gave an update on Shamet’s rehab before Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks. The Knicks coach said Shamet is making steady progress down in the G League in his rehab from a right shoulder dislocation he suffered in the preseason.

“Taking contact now, so he’s getting closer,” Thibodeau said.

Shamet was waived prior to the start of the season after his injury but was drafted by the Westchester Knicks in the G League draft to allow him to rehab with the organization.

The 27-year-old was projected to be a part of the Knicks’ rotation this season but the injury has delayed that.

Shamet has played on five teams over the last seven years. He spent last season with the Washington Wizards where he averaged 7.1 points over 15.8 minutes per game, shooting 33.8 percent from three-point range.

Over his career, Shamet is a 38.4 percent three-point shooter, averaging 8.7 points per game.

Additionally, Thibodeau said Ariel Hukporti is day-to-day with a sprained ankle, which he suffered in the second quarter of Wednesday morning’s game with the Westchester Knicks. Hukporti along with Pacome Dadiet and Tyler Kolek were all recalled after the game.

The rookie center last played for the Knicks on Dec. 7 against the Pistons when he scored nine points in 15 minutes of play.

In 11 games played this season, Hukporti is averaging 1.9 points on 64.3 percent shooting and 1.8 rebounds per game in 8.8 minutes on the court.
