Date:

TOPEKA, Kan. (KCTV) – More high school basketball, baseball and softball is coming to schools in the state of Kansas.

Beginning in the 2025-26 winter basketball season, high schools in Kansas will be allowed to play 23 regular season games. That’s an increase from the previous limit of 20 regular season games and means teams that advance to the state championship could play as many as 28 total games between regular season and postseason play.

That rule change goes into effect this spring.

In wrestling, athletes may now participate in no more than four events. That rule goes into effect this school year.

The KSHSAA Board of Directors approved the change Wednesday during a meeting of high school athletic directors.

During the meeting, the item passed with a 36-25 vote.
