Kylian Mbappé’s first El Clásico didn’t go as planned, as Real Madrid fell 4-0 to FC Barcelona on Saturday night at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The former Paris Saint-Germain forward nearly put Madrid ahead in the 31st minute, but after a VAR review, his goal was ruled offside, setting the tone for a frustrating night.
Mbappé’s performance against Barcelona also summarizes his stint so far with Los Blancos and it’s highlighted by one surprising fact that many might have missed. StatMuse pointed out on X that Mbappé has as many offsides tonight as goals in all competitions this season (eight).
If things couldn’t get worse for the ex-PSG standout and Real Madrid, they had to watch Barcelona celebrate four second-half goals. Veteran Robert Lewandowski scored twice in quick succession, netting in the 54th and 56th minutes. Lamine Yamal added a goal in the 77th minute, and Raphinha drove the final blow in the 84th.
It’s been a tough start for Mbappé at Real Madrid. If he can’t find his way out of this slump, he could be viewed in the same light as Eden Hazard, who moved to Real Madrid from Chelsea in a transfer that ultimately flopped.
