Kyren Williams: Sweeping 49ers shows we’re the big brothers now

Date:

After Thursday night’s 12-6 win over the 49ers, Rams running back Kyren Williams told reporters in the locker room that the pilot of the team’s plane mentioned that the Rams had the chance to sweep the season series over their divisional rivals at the end of their short flight.

Williams said he realized that didn’t happen in either of his first two NFL seasons and you have to go back to 2018 to find a season when the Rams went 2-0 against the Niners. The Rams have won a Super Bowl since then, but the 49ers have generally been the top team in the division in recent years.

That almost certainly won’t be the case this season and Williams said after the game that it felt like the win stamped a change in the relationship between the teams.

“Being able to do that knowing how good of a team they are and knowing the history of the two organizations, it’s huge and it shows that we’re the big brothers now,” Williams said.

While the 49ers are behind them, the Rams entered this week trailing the Seahawks in the race for the division title. They won the first meeting of the year with Seattle and the two teams may be battling for the NFC West in their Week 18 rematch, so it may take another sweep before the Rams can officially be called the king of the hill.
