La Liga managers threaten strike over non-payment of dues – report

The most volatile position in club football is undoubtedly that of the manager.

Irrespective of the shortcomings of the players, the administration or the club staff, the coaches form the face of the club and are often the party to face the axe.

As the most dispensable part of most teams, managers being sacked is a commonality in today’s world and Barcelona are no different in that respect having seen the tenures of Ernesto Valverde, Quique Setien, Ronald Koeman and Xavi Hernandez in recent years.

Strike being proposed

As revealed in a recent update by MARCA, La Liga coaches are planning to go on a strike in Spain in protest against the mistreatment of managers after their sacking.

The Spanish outlet brings to light that coaches are unhappy with the non-payment of coaches after their sacking.

In particular, the cases of Quique Setien who was sacked from Villarreal in September last year and Alvaro Cervera who was sacked by Real Oviedo at the same time have now triggered the protests.

With the National Committee set for a meeting tomorrow with representatives of the league, they hope for a resolution and assurance of the payments.

No dues to Xavi

While Barcelona did indeed sack Xavi Hernandez weeks after announcing his continuity, and in the process cut short his contract, the club legend was grateful enough to write off any money owed to him.

Always a man for the club, Xavi stood by his words and forgave the club a whopping sum of close to €11-12 million.

The Catalans, thus, will not be directly affected by the protests planned as they do not have any pending accounts. Had the previous manager not been as gracious, however, the situation could well have been different.
