Lady Vols walk-on guard Edie Darby out with left foot injury for ‘extended period of time’

Date:

Lady Vols basketball will be without another one of their guards for the start of the season.

Walk-on guard Edie Darby will be out with a left foot injury for “an extended period of time,” coach Kim Caldwell announced Thursday ahead of the exhibition against Carson-Newman.

The 5-foot-7 sophomore from Greenfield has appeared in 23 games the past two seasons. She averaged 1.1 points across 13 appearances last season and averaged 4.5 minutes.

Tennessee opens the season against Samford on Tuesday at Food City Center.

Darby is the second guard to suffer a long-term injury during preseason. Senior guard Kaiya Wynn is out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon in her right leg. Wynn was one of only five players to appear an all 33 games last season and averaged 4.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 13.4 minutes per game.
