Date:

Sep. 27—Staff Report

The Pymatuning Valley Lakers girls golf team will

play for at least another week.

The Lakers shot a 416 to finish fourth in the Division II sectional tournament Thursday at Pine Lakes Golf Club in Hubbard.

PV reached the district for the first time in school history for girls golf.

The top four teams and four individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to the Good Park District Tournament in Akron Wednesday.

McCamey Compan, the Lakers’ medalist all season, was sidelined with an illness.

Junior Kylie Luke led the Lakers with a 48-48-96.

She was followed by sophomore Allison Clark at 48-52-100 and Mackenzie Kribbs 54-55-109 and freshman Shelby Lautanen 54-57-111.

“They really stepped up [Thursday] because there was no margin for error,” PV coach Rob Wludyga said. “It was unfortunate to be without sophomore McCamey Compan. McCamey is our leader on our team and without her, we knew all four scores were going to be used.”

Wludyga was pleased the players maintained their poise throughout the 18 holes to put together a solid team score.

“We are excited for this group because we are a pretty young team with no seniors,” he said. “I’m so proud that we were able to qualify with a junior, two sophomores and a freshman.”

Columbiana won the sectional tournament with a 365, followed by LaBrae at 406 and West Branch at 407.

Lakeview placed fifth with a 418.

The individual district qualifers were: Mooney junior Katie Pregibon with a 40-45-85, Saline Southern senior Kennedy Lewis, 47-43-90; Girard junior Ally Gassman, 46-46-92 and United junior Olivia Ashburn, 46-52-98.
