FARMVILLE, Va. — The Longwood women’s basketball team will play half of its 14 non-conference games at home in the Joan Perry Brock Center in 2024-25, head coach Erika Lang-Montgomery announced today.
Longwood is also set to host its first in-season tournament since 2010-11 when South Carolina State, McNeese and William & Mary come to Farmville for the Shirley Duncan Classic on Dec. 6-8.
The Lancers will play two schools that advanced to the postseason last season — Norfolk State (Nov. 7) and Florida (Dec. 15) — both on the road. The trip to Gainesville marks the third all-time matchup with the Gators and first under the direction of Lang-Montgomery, who played at Florida from 1988-92 and was an assistant coach there from 2019-21.
“We are excited to play a competitive non-conference schedule that will prepare us for conference play,” Lang-Montgomery, entering her third season at Longwood, said. “On a personal note, I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return with my team to my alma mater, the University of Florida in December.”
Longwood opens the season Nov. 4 at the JPB against Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, before heading to Norfolk to take on the 27-4 MEAC-champion Spartans three days later for the second time in two seasons.
Hood College, located in Frederick, Md., is in town Nov. 10 as a part of Longwood’s homecoming festivities prior to Longwood embarking on a three-game swing through Washington D.C., Statesboro, Ga., and Charlotte to face American, Georgia Southern and Queens, respectively. The first two games on the trip Nov. 13 and 16 are return games of two-game series continued from last season.
The Lancers host Navy Nov. 23 as that series resumes for the first time since the 1990-91 campaign. Elon comes to Farmville Nov. 26 before Longwood hosts South Carolina State, McNeese State and William & Mary in its multi-team event.
Following the clash with the Gators, Longwood heads to Babson Park, Fla., for a Dec. 18 date at Webber International.
The Lancers close their non-league slate at UNCW Dec. 29. Longwood won its last meeting with the Seahawks, 59-58, on Nov. 13, 2019 at Willett Hall.
The Big South Conference schedule will be announced at a later date. All dates and times are subject to change.
