LAUREL, Mont. — The Fergus Golden Eagles and Laurel Locomotives were one of the few games taking place across the state Monday night and they did not disappoint.
The boys led the double-header which say the Locomotives open a 14 point first half lead, holding a double digit lead into the 3rd quarter. The Golden Eagles would hang around cutting the lead to just four with two minutes to play.
Fergus’s McKay Shobe hit a jumper with 1:49 left to cut the lead to just two put the Golden Eagles were unable to get any closer. Luke Maack found Krew Hunter for the game sealing basket with 21 seconds left to secure the 40-36 win for Laurel.
The girls game also provided an instant classic with Laurel jumping out to a first half lead thanks to the hot shooting of Emerson Gunther who added two threes and a tough layup in the opening quarter.
Laurel would take a four point lead into halftime but the Golden Eagles would flip the script in the second half defeating the Locomotives 60-56.
The Golden Eagles will host Hardin Friday, January 30th while Laurel hits the road to play Livingston January 31st.
