Leao and Theo Hernandez set to return to Milan line-up after Lazio fiasco

Date:

Milan stars Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez are set to be reinstated to Paulo Fonseca’s starting line-up when the Rossoneri take on Venezia after the international break, following an on-pitch clash between the players and their coach against Lazio last Saturday.

Leao and Theo Hernandez were left out of the starting line-up for the 2-2 draw against Lazio. They both appeared as second-half substitutes, and were both involved as Leao provided Milan’s equaliser almost immediately after coming on.

Play was halted for a cooling break shortly after Leao’s goal went in. 20 players went over to the sidelines to get some refreshments and listen to updated tactical information from their coaches, but the Rossoneri duo instead decided to stand on the opposite side of the pitch, waiting for play to restart.

Everybody involved tried to play the situation down afterwards. CEO Giorgio Furlani later described the incident as a ‘non-event’, while Theo Hernandez explained he and Leao did not need a cooling break as they had only been on the pitch for a matter of minutes.

Tuesday’s reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport indicate that both players will be included in the starting line-up for Saturday’s visit from newly-promoted Venezia.

Both players have apologised, and have promised not to repeat their actions. In return, the club have not fined either player and are ready to move on from the fiasco against Lazio.
