Leases terminated for store owners at Fashion Square Mall

Date:

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – Store owners at Fashion Square Mall are being asked to clear out by the end of the month.

Dyshe Smith, owner of Nails Next Door, told 29News she got a letter from management in mid-December, stating that her lease would be terminated on January 31.

She says the mall still has not clarified to her or other owners why they are moving tenants out, or what will be taking their place.

“I got the letter, I was like, okay, this is crazy,” said Smith. “Like yeah, it was expected, but it was like dang it’s actually really happening… I do feel like they could’ve been told us when they initially knew that that’s what they were planning to do.”

Smith says she had a relatively smooth few years at Fashion Square and appreciated the low rent but wishes they had communicated earlier about the closure.

29News asked mall management what is next for them, but we have not received an answer yet.
