Christian Academy’s recent run of postseason success in boys golf continued Monday with individual and team titles in the Region Six Championships at Seneca Golf Course.
CAL junior Will Judd, a University of Kentucky commit, shot a 3-under par 69 to capture individual honors by one shot over Trinity’s Will Hudson and Eastern’s Luke Bryant.
Collins’ Walker Webb and North Oldham’s Graham Schmidt tied for fourth with 71s.
CAL also won the team title with a score of 1-under 287. Trinity was second at 291 and was followed by St. Xavier (292), South Oldham (295) and Eastern (300).
“I’m not surprised at all,” CAL first-year coach Lucas Holland said. “I knew on any given day these guys could go out and shoot a score to win a tournament. … Today we were put at the bottom of the barrel (with tee times and pairings), and I believe that put a chip on their shoulders. The guys wanted to go out and show what they can do. They really dialed in and focused.”
CAL, which won its last regional title in 2021, and Trinity earned spots in the first round of the state tournament set for next Monday at Shelbyville Country Club. The final rounds of the state tournament are set for Oct. 8-9 at Bowling Green Country Club.
Judd is looking to become the fourth straight CAL golfer to take the state title, joining Matthew Troutman (2021) and Brady Smith (2022-23).
In Monday’s regional, Judd made four birdies and one bogey on his way to victory. Judd tied for fourth place in last year’s regional.
Rounding out CAL’s team score were freshman Campbell Parsons (72) and eighth-graders Brady Faulkner (73) and Luke Elliot (73). Sophomore Zach Gladieux shot a 76.
Trinity was led by Hudson’s 70. He was followed by Grant Howard (73), Carson Long (73) and Trent Harley (75).
The top 10 individual finishers not on one of the top two teams also advanced to next week’s first-round action at Shelbyville. Joining Bryant, Webb and Schmidt will be Collegiate’s Taiten Luehrs (72); South Oldham’s Max Terrell (72), Colton Woosley (72) and Griffin Barke (72); St. Xavier’s Luc Kelty (72); Brown’s Cade Wilson (73); and Oldham County’s Miles Green (73).
Wilson and Green advanced out of a five-man playoff for the final two spots.
