Letter: Thank Biden and Harris, and stop Trump

Date:

History will remember President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as one of the best presidential administrations in American history for guiding us through the 2020 pandemic and enacting policies and plans that helped all Americans with a strong economy and protecting civil rights for all.

Sadly, president-elect Donald Trump hasn’t learned anything from his 2020 election loss to Biden, the Jan. 6 criminal insurrection, his 34 felony-count conviction, or being liable for sexual abuse, and continues to show poor judgment by making a mockery out of our federal government by nominating unqualified and inexperienced members to his cabinet and top government posts, making him the worst president in American history who could still be jailed once he leaves office in four years.

Harris deserved to win this presidential election, but at least she made history as America’s first female vice president, who supported abortion rights, LGBTQ+ people and civil rights, while her opponent made outrageous comments that seemed sexist, racist, and supportive of white supremacy and Christian nationalism.

I think some Americans need reminded that we are all immigrants in the U.S., unless you are Native American. Please also stop the transphobic hate speech and make all activities co-ed, and eliminate gender as an identifier on all legal documents by only using height, weight, hair, eye color, and a current photo. Dividing people by gender is wrong, as separate is never equal, and why we needed to pass Title IX.

The way forward is to protect our First Amendment rights, including a free press like the Canton Repository, to hold officials accountable, and continue to speak out, protest, join a local civil rights groups, and vote, especially on Nov. 7, 2028, when we could elect our first female pro-choice president.
