It’s now just two months until January, but Liverpool still haven’t tied down any of their key players to new contracts.

Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah will all be free to speak to clubs from abroad in the new year when they enter the last six months of their current deals.

That will now be a huge concern for Liverpool supporters with no sign of the trio coming even close to an agreement with the club.

Arne Slot suggested he wasn’t worried about the situation in his press conference ahead of Brighton, but he also didn’t issue an update and suggested there was nothing new to report on.

For Boston Red Sox fans, this may feel like a similar situation to what happened to one of their best stars of the modern era.

Liverpool are keeping a close eye on potential replacements for left-back, Andy Robertson, as they look to the future of their defensive lineup.

The 30-year-old has been a cornerstone of Liverpool’s defence since his arrival from Hull City seven years ago, offering defensive solidity, pinpoint passes and incredible attacking play. He has been integral to Liverpool success in recent years.

Liverpool have identified the left-back position as one with room for potential improvement with Robertson having a difficult season so far, with his contract currently expiring in 2026 as well as the Reds only having one established back-up option in Kostas Tsimikas.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are looking at preparing a bid for Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.

Liverpool have a deep array of attacking options this season but there remains uncertainty around Mohamed Salah‘s future.

The Egyptian’s contract expires next summer and there is little to no information on whether or not the winger will extend his stay on Merseyside with interest coming from both Europe and Saudi Arabia.

Furthermore, there have been transfer links surrounding Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz, who have both attracted interest from Barcelona.

Due to the uncertainty, the Reds are considering potential options for their attack next season.

Viktor Gyokeres would be welcome, but he would certainly be expensive. Dario Osorio looks a good talent but has also been attracting interest from Real Madrid.

Salah talks given Saudi boost

Liverpool are deep in contract talks with Mo Salah and have an unexpected boost. And it comes from Saudi Arabia.

Liverpool have been dealing with Mo Salah speculation for years now. It’s at fever pitch this season, though, with the Egyptian’s contract expiring at the end of the campaign.

In fact, Salah can agree terms with a non-English club from January 1st: just two months from now. Isn’t that terrifying?

rParticularly of note is interest from Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Pro League is where the money is and they’ve long had an intense desire to bring in the Egyptian.

The Reds even rejected a record offer for their no.11 back in 2023. Now they could lose him for free.

But it appears they may have had a boost there.

Liverpool coach Arne Slot is working with plenty of his fellow countrymen at Anfield.

Alongside him on the Reds’ bench is Sipke Hulshoff, his trusted assistant, plus former Netherlands international John Heitinga, among others.

Of course, in the Liverpool squad are some of the Netherlands’ best performers.

Virgil van Dijk is long established as one of the best central defenders around and has been a mainstay in the Liverpool lineup since 2018.

Ryan Gravenberch, meanwhile, is becoming one of the most consistent defensive midfielders in the Premier League this season having risen to prominence under Slot.

And forward Cody Gakpo is now beginning to edge Luis Diaz out of Liverpool’s preferred starting XI having scored two more goals in the midweek Carabao Cup victory against Brighton.

And if Slot gets his way, his squad could soon be joined by another prominent Dutchman.

Liverpool to fight United for Trent replacement

The longer the season goes on without Trent Alexander-Arnold signing a new contract at Liverpool, the more likely it feels that he will leave at the end of the season and join Real Madrid.

Liverpool’s vice-captain is free to speak to other clubs from January 1st – as are Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk – and has been heavily linked with a move away, with Jude Bellingham trying to convince him to join him in Madrid.

While it’s far from an ideal situation for Arne Slot to be in just a few months into his time on Merseyside, both he and Trent should be applauded for keeping performances to an extremely high standard, despite the speculation.

Liverpool’s main goal should be to renew Trent’s contract at pretty much whatever cost. He is one of the club’s best players and carries the tradition

However, if Trent does leave the Reds will need to have a replacement lined up, and it looks like they could be set to fight Manchester United for one players’ signature.
