Here’s our round-up of all the latest Liverpool transfer news today (Wednesday 18 September) as Fabrizio Romano issues an update on Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s contract situation.
Fabrizio Romano issues update on Trent’s contract
Fabrizio Romano has given an update on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation, with just over three months left before the defender can start negotiating with other clubs for a potential move away from Anfield.
The 25-year-old is in a similar situation to stars Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, whose contracts are both due to expire next summer, leaving sporting director Richard Hughes in a difficult position as he tries to convince them to stay.
These three players have been pivotal to Liverpool’s success over the past seven years, playing essential roles in their numerous achievements. Their quality is rare, and retaining them is crucial, but now the focus is on their futures.
The main worry surrounding Alexander-Arnold is potential interest from Real Madrid, the only club likely to lure him away.
Liverpool plotting move for rapid Bundesliga winger
German football has produced some talents which have taken the footballing world by storm and become some of the greatest players ever.
Looking at the likes of Miroslav Klose, Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer and of course Franz Beckenbauer.
These players have displayed immense skill and natural ability in their chosen positions.
Now one German player in the Bundesliga is making a name for himself and attracting big interest from several clubs, one of these being Liverpool.
Karim Adeyemi is one of the hottest prospects in the Bundesliga at the moment. The 22-year-old forward has played a key role for Borussia Dortmund this season, scoring two and gaining an assist in the first 3 games of the campaign.
Why Liverpool want new England sensation
It was recently revealed that Liverpool scouted ex-Manchester United midfielder Angel Gomes during England’s 2-0 win over Finland at Wembley.
The 24-year-old, currently playing for Lille, has his contract expiring at the end of the 2024/25 season, and so could sign a pre-contract with a club outside of France in January. Arsenal and Tottenham are among the other clubs believed to be vying for his signature.
The fact his contract is expiring would suit Liverpool’s current pattern under Richard Hughes of looking for ‘opportunistic’ moments in the transfer market. This led to the signing of Federico Chiesa being the only incoming for the summer window, with Giorgi Mamardashvili joining next summer, and a free transfer for a talented player could be what Hughes was waiting for.
Ex-Liverpool star tips Salah to leave
Liverpool’s talisman Mohamed Salah is down to the last year of his contract and now a former Liverpool star has not only tipped Salah to leave, but also endorsed a potential replacement.
Salah signed a contract extension with the Reds back in July 2022, a deal that made him the highest paid player in the club’s history, but now that contract’s expiry date is fast approaching.
From January onwards, Liverpool’s star will be able to negotiate a pre-contract with overseas clubs and could leave Merseyside for free at the end of the season.
Negotiations are reportedly set to begin soon over a new deal but there could be some major roadblocks in the way and there is a real chance that this could be Salah’s last season at Anfield.
Trent makes his decision
Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly made a major decision about his future at Liverpool.
Trent’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current season and so he would technically be able to sign a pre-contract with a foreign club from January if he chose not to renew.
The Liverpool star has been linked with Real Madrid over the summer, with reports often mentioning his close friendship with Jude Bellingham, which was evident at the Euros over the summer, with the English duo debuting their own celebration together. He was also pictured with Bellingham alongside Real Madrid pair Kylian Mbappe and Aurélien Tchouaméni over the summer.
