The LPGA have been forced to apologise to fans left struggling to access the course at the Solheim Cup after long delays.

The 19th edition of the women’s gold event got underway at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville Virginia on Friday, with British golfer Charley Hull up against world number one Nelly Korda in the foursomes and fourballs.

However, for fans there were other concerns, accessing the course.

Those in attendance posted photos early in the day of empty seats in the stands because of the difficulty and long delays accessing the shuttle buses offering transport between the car parks and the event.

Users on X complained of delays for up to two hours for the buses, and there were also calls for refunds for those who had bought tickets but were forced to miss the start of the vent, despite arriving before sunrise because of the delays for the shuttle.

The LPGA said on X: “We recognize and deeply apologize to all fans affected by the challenges with shuttling from parking to the golf course. We’ve made significant changes to our transportation system to mitigate these issues moving forward, and we’re working on ways to express our regret to those impacted.”

Beth Ann Nichols who works for Golfweek, posted on X saying: “Been out talking to folks. Those who drove in as late as 8:15 this morning were told they’d have a two to three-hour wait just to get on the bus. No telling how many turned around.”
